Waves Don't Exist Alone.

A surf ecosystem is not just a wave. It's the set of natural elements, communities and processes that make that wave possible. Here, we protect the whole.

Biological Components

Biological Components

Coral reefs, mangroves, seagrass meadows, coastal forests, migratory birds, marine mammals and reef fish. They are the foundation of everything.

Without this biodiversity there is no wave worth surfing, no fishing to support a family, no landscape worth the trip.

Every species plays a role: mangroves filter the water, reefs shape the waves, fish keep the balance. When one fails, the whole system feels it.

Geophysical Components

Geophysical Components

The seabed, ocean currents, winds, rivers, sediments and coastal relief are the architects of every wave.

Our coasts face directly south, allowing them to capture swells at a perfect angle, generating long, well-shaped waves.

From June to October the biggest swells of the year arrive, with waves between 6 and 12 feet. The volcanic seabed formations create exceptional breaks.

Sociocultural Components

Sociocultural Components

Artisanal fishers, local surfers, cooks, artisans, nature guides and community organizations.

They know the territory better than anyone, because they have lived it for generations. Without them, Oriente Salvaje would just be a pretty place.

With them, it is a living culture. Real conservation doesn't happen from outside: it happens when the people who inhabit the territory have reasons, tools and power to care for it.
