Rules of the Destination
Oriente Salvaje is a managed destination. These rules are not restrictions: they are how we all take care of the waves, the forest and the communities that make this place possible. Come without rushing, stay a while, buy local, and leave the territory better than you found it.
1. In the Water
- Respect priority and the basic rules of surfing: whoever is on the wave has right of way.
- Respect the recommended crowd limits at each spot: fewer people, a better experience for everyone.
- Share the waves equally with locals and visitors; respect is returned here.
- Look after your own safety and that of others; get to know the spot before paddling out.
2. Responsible Visitor
- Choose operators and lodging committed to sustainability (check the ADETCO directory).
- Inform yourself: this is a World Surfing Reserve; treat it as such.
- Report any environmental damage or bad practice to ADETCO.
3. Nature
- Take your trash with you; don't leave anything on the beach or in the sea.
- Don't touch or take corals, shells, wildlife or plants.
- Respect turtle nesting areas and signage.
- Reduce single-use plastic: bring your own reusable bottle and bag.
- Stay on the trails; don't cut new paths through the forest.
4. Community and the Local
- Treat residents and workers with respect.
- Support local: eat, shop and hire in the area instead of bringing everything from outside.
- Stay overnight when you can: the place feels different unhurried, and your stay directly sustains the families who live off tourism.
- If you're visiting for the day, spend at local businesses and take all your trash with you.
- Ask permission before photographing people.
- Drive carefully on streets and beaches; there are families and children.
